Isaiah 41:21 – 42:17 – Taking the Insurers to Court
1. Prosecution - God’s Day in Court (41:21-29)
2. Promise – God’s Servant Will Bring Justice to the World (42:1-9)
3. Praise – God’s Glory to the Ends of the Earth (42:10-17)
Questions for us: What are some of the modern idols that we might trust in? What do they offer us? How similar are we to the people in Isaiah's time? What is God’s indictment against the idols? What evidence does God give to prove he passes his own test? What does God’s ability to know and direct the future say about his nature? What is God’s conclusion about the people who worship those idols? What does this say about us putting our hope in other things?
What does God promise about Jesus, his servant’s mission? How should this impact how we relate to him? Do you know the peace and joy that comes from realising he is gentle and kind and in control?
How does Isaiah respond to this news and how should we? What practical steps can you take this week to shift your trust from worldly securities to God? What can you do to remind yourself of the character of Jesus each day?
