Intro: Fear or Faith?

         1) Foolish fear kills faith (v1-11)

The Psalm 2 God

  • The Philistines were proud fools

Foolish because the almighty God is on the other team.

  • The Israelites were fear-filled fools

Foolish because they are fixing their eyes on a mere man

        2) Faith in the living God kills fear (v12-37)

“Now David …”

a) David knows who God is

The Living God

b) David knows who God’s people are

The Covenant people

c) David’s faith has been tested and built

Bears and Lions so Giants not a problem

3 great questions:

Who is God? Who are we? What has God already got me through in life?

d) David knows God is with him

God isn’t safe but he is good, he is the King.

        3) The King from Bethlehem is who our faith is in (v38-58)

We aren’t David, but we are his brothers – humbled by our representative fighting and winning the battles that we can’t fight and wouldn’t win

King Jesus and Colossians 2 v 13-15

13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you[d] alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having cancelled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.[e]

Put your faith in Jesus; KNOW he has won and so trust him enough to OBEY.
