Intro: The Shadowlands and the beginning of the real story

  • The gloom is gone (v1-5)
  •

    • The gloom of internal darkness

    • The gloom of external darkness

“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness, a light has dawned.”

    • The fulfilment of 2 Sam 7

    • Light for now, Light forever

    Questions to think more about:

  • In what areas (internally and externally) are you most aware of the darkness in this world? Why is the child being born the answer?
  • Wonderful Counsellor – why is this such good news?
  • Mighty God – why is this such good news?
  • Everlasting Father – why is this such good news?
  • Prince of Peace – why is this such good news?
  • How will you deliberately meditate on these truths over Christmas?
  • Memory verse: Isaiah 9 v 6

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
