Intro: This is your life

  • A Promised child?

“When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months”

  • God is in control

  • Moses and an ark to save him

  • Normal people relying on the one true God to act

  • A frustrated failure!

“Looking this way and that and seeing no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.”

  • Moses in a good position (Acts 7v25)

  • But takes things into his own hands

  • Pride stops us seeking God’s wisdom and help

  • Moses needs to be moulded

  • Humility and a crying out to God

“The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God. God heard their groaning …”

  • Waiting patiently for God is hard

  • The 80 year old Moses is humble and ready to be used

  • God’s people in deep need are a people who pray, and this crying out to God should be at the centre of our lives

My own questions for later:

Memory verse: Exodus 2 v 24

“God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.”

Questions for Life Group:

  • Read verses 1-10. What can we learn from this normal family who have nothing left but to trust in God to rescue? What will you do next time you are helpless?
  • Read verses 11-22. Why do you think Moses kills the Egyptian (see Acts 7v25)? Why is pride often the opposite of prayer?
  • Read verses 23-25. Why were the Israelites crying out to God? How bad do things need to be in our lives and in our nation before prayer becomes a far more core part of our daily lives?
